Meditation: harder when you need it the most#
Here I am from week 22. Looking back at last week's calendar, I feel like my overall state wasn't very good. Almost every day after work, I would come home and just lie down, rarely being able to efficiently use the remaining time. If I didn't have anything I wanted to do, lying down wouldn't be a problem, but deep down I was always anxious, stuck in a state of wanting to do something but unable to take action.
When I tried to figure out why last week was so sluggish, I realized that the main reason was that I didn't stick to meditation at the beginning of the week. At the end of week 20, I was in a rush to finish the second version of my thesis project proposal. At that time, I felt very excited and thought that meditation and such were unnecessary processes. I would often sit down and immediately start working.
At first, I had a clear direction, but by the end of the weekend, I was clearly in a state of exhaustion. The exhaustion wasn't because of too much work, but because there were many thoughts accumulating in my mind without being sorted out in a timely manner. Then, when I got home, I entered a vicious cycle of "anxious scrolling on my phone." It can be said that the first half of last week was a negative confirmation of the importance of meditation for someone like me who may have ADHD.
One interesting observation is that when I'm most anxious, it's also when I least want to meditate. Every time I have a lot of thoughts when I get home, even just ten minutes of meditation becomes extremely difficult for me. If I can muster the courage to meditate in such situations, I can feel a dual release from physical and mental stress in just ten minutes of meditation. This feeling is very satisfying, but at this stage, I rarely proactively meditate when I'm very anxious.
However, the trial and error of last week was meaningful. At least from my current observations, the three points that can help me maintain productivity the most are:
- Frequent meditation
- Doing one thing at a time
- Daily planning and following the plan
The most essential feature of these three points is that they can significantly reduce my sense of anxiety, preventing me from overexerting myself beyond thinking. Consolidating these three points should be my core goal for the next month.
Other Interesting points#
- I saw a small box from LG before that helps you organize your daily medication at the beginning of each week, making it very easy to stick to the habit of taking medication every day. Recently, I also started trying to take lecithin and collagen. I wonder if I can stick to it this time?
- The weekend summary from the week before last was originally delayed for a long time. According to my usual habits, it probably would have been forgotten, but this time I forced myself to complete it on Thursday. Looking back now, it was a decision I don't regret.
- I'm very obsessed with the story of "Interstellar Pioneers." I can really resonate with the spirit of the Martian colonists. This game is truly unique. Although I think it's hard to find another game like this, I feel like my current state of life is anticipating the opportunity to satisfy my curiosity about everything, just like the Martian colonists. I don't know when I'll have the chance to write a blog post about "Interstellar Pioneers," but I will definitely write one.
- I've picked up a good habit again - morning exercise after waking up. Right now, it's just planks and push-ups, but it's easier to associate with waking up compared to jumping rope, making it easier to form a habit. It's also the easiest form of exercise for me to pick up given my recent lack of physical activity.
New desires#
